How to: Install Riot G Cleat BlocksUpdated 7 days ago
The Bont Cycling Riot G features 0.5mm and 1mm cleat blocks to ensure the best connection and stability between pedal and shoe. These are intended for use after your Riot G sole guards wear down – increasing the contact distance between pedal and shoe – but can also be fitted immediately if needed.
Riot G sole guards are glued to the shoe and as such, care must be taken during removal and when fitting cleat blocks or replacements guards, especially if the shoes are new as the guards will be firmly attached to the shoe.
Follow these steps for installation of Riot G cleat blocks.
Riot G cleat blocks
- Check the size of your cleat blocks matches your current shoe sizing. Cleat block sizing is labelled on each piece. Remove the sole guard screws and set aside.
- Use a thin and sharp blade to carefully cut away the glue from around the inside edge (nearest cleat area) and slowly pry the guard away from the shoe sole. Repeat for both sides of the shoe sole guards.
- A small amount of acetone or nail polish remover on a cotton bud or similar can help to dissolve excess glue and assist in removal of existing guards. Warning: damage can occur to shoe upper if acetone is applied directly to upper material. Use sparingly! Apply the acetone right where it is needed. If necessary, pry the toe guards off the sole slightly to apply the acetone onto the underside.
- Allow acetone to dry completely and select the correct side and size cleat blocks. This can be determined by assessing how the amount of 'rocking' that may be experienced during your pedal and shoe contact.
- Place a small amount of Loctite 401 (not included) or equivalent onto the base (carbon) of the shoe and onto the underside of the sole guard.
- Install correct side cleat block between the carbon base and sole guard and line up the screw holes. The cleat block holes should line up perfectly when placed onto the correct side shoe.
- Tighten sole guard screws onto the shoe gently. Note: If the sole guard begins to deform during installation, they are too tight. Loosen the screw slightly to allow the glue to dry evenly.
- Hold firmly against shoe for a few minutes.
- Repeat steps above for the other side and shoe.
- Leave to dry for minimum 12 hours before riding.
